Babar Azam Career Story




Babar Azam played his first ODI against Zimbabwe in 2015. He was later called for the ODI series against West Indies in 2016 where he became the highlight in the world of cricket when he scored three consecutive centuries. He became the third Pakistani player to score 3 successive hundred and the only player to score 350+ runs in a three-match ODI series. Babar Azam has played two U19 World Cups in 2010 and 2012 and was the leading run scorer from Pakistan. Babar made his test debut the same series against West Indies and his T20 debut against England in 2016.



Babar came in and filled the No. 3 spot for Pakistan’s batting order which had been struggling to find a set middle-order batsman. Babar holds numerous records to his name at a young age. He became the fastest player to reach 1000 T20 runs breaking Virat Kohli’s record. Babar is ranked No. 1 batsman in ICC T20 rankings. Babar also became the first Asian, and second batsman after Hashim Amla to score the fastest 3000 ODI runs in just 68 innings. Babar was signed by Somerset for the T20 blast in May 2019 as their overseas player.

He was also called in to be a part of 15-member World Cup squad 2019, during the World Cup, Babar broke Pakistan’s 27-year record for most runs in a World Cup by a Pakistani player, he surpassed Javed Miandad who held the record for 27 long years. Babar scored 474 runs. Babar Azam and Imam Ul Haq also held the highest partnership of 157 runs in the World Cup 2019. During the World Cup 2019, Babar hit a 101* century against New Zealand making him the first Pakistani middle-order batsman to score a century after 32 years. Babar Azam has been breaking records and been a runs making machine for Pakistan, with Pakistan still struggling to find a set of openers, Babar has set his place at No.3 spot making the middle order strong. He is also the first cousin of Kamran, Umar, with cricket running I the family, Babar Azam has shown a pure class of his talent at a very young age. As of recent ICC ODI rankings, Babar Azam jumped up four places to No.3 spot.
